Inaugural Climate Toolkit Symposium

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is home to one of the most visionary botanic gardens in the U.S. Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is over 125 years old.  It embarked on a fresh sustainability journey in 2005. From aggressive renewable energy goals to LEED Platinum greenhouses, the institution continues to set the standard for environmental innovation.

Phipps launched the Climate Toolkit framework in 2019. Cultural and scientific institutions use the framework to chart their path toward carbon-positive operations. The toolkit offers practical guidance for botanic gardens and museums beginning their sustainability journey.

In two weeks, Phipps will host the first Symposium on Sustainability, bringing together leaders from across North America. Wildwood is honored to contribute to this important event, sharing lessons from successful projects in Santa Fe, Los Angeles, and Portland.

Our discussions will explore renewable energy, funding mechanisms, partnerships, and community engagement — the cornerstones of scalable climate action. These projects will show how Wildwood helps teams cultivate a more sustainable future at public gardens.
