Wildwood Business Travel: First Half of 2025

The results are in. During the first half of 2025, Wildwood logged 4,928 travel miles.  Plane, car, ferry, bus, and bike trips resultied in a carbon footprint of 2,882 lbs of CO2e.

Taking Flight with SAF

At the start of the year, Wildwood committed to offsetting 5% of air travel with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). SAF reduces emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional jet fuel, but it remains scarce and more expensive. Purchasing SAF certificates allows organizations to claim the carbon reduction benefits—even if the SAF isn’t used on their specific flight—while helping to expand market access.

In the first half of the year, Wildwood flew 2,270 miles, generating 2,085 lbs of CO2e. By purchasing SAF certificates covering 125 lbs of emissions, we achieved 5.5% coverage—keeping us on track to meet our 2025 goal.

Driving Change with EVs

On the road, Wildwood covered 2,596 car miles with 1,999 miles in an EV. While EVs made up 80% of total mileage, they accounted for only 40% of travel-related CO2e emissions. EV emissions will shrink further as California utilities continue their transition toward 100% renewable energy.

Small but Mighty Miles

Travel by bus, ferry, and bike added up to 62 miles. These modes highlight the complexity of measurement. Bike miles are the easiest footprint to track – zero. Bus and ferry emissions depend heavily on occupancy rates at the time of travel. Looking ahead, Wildwood will explore strategies to replace a portion of car miles with bike miles.

Lessons Learned

  • Prioritize electric vehicles wherever possible.

  • Set a SAF target to steadily decarbonize air travel.

If your organization is looking to assess its travel footprint, now is a great time to start planning for 2026.

Who knows where the road will lead?
