Behind the Scenes: Carbon Confidential

The first episode of Carbon Confidential is out. My guest is Isabelle Duvivier, the Los Angeles based principal of Duvivier Architects.  We discuss climate resilience in Venice Beach California.

Listen to CC 1: Isabelle Duvivier

Here are some reflections on the first episode:

Isabelle’s personality and funniest lines were on full display on our prep call. Handing her a list of questions ahead of time put her at ease.  It also allowed her to edit answers.  The recorded conversation lost some spice. Polished answers are safe, but they’re rarely the moments people remember.  In the future, I’ll give guests a sense of where we’re headed and let them edit the recording afterwards.

Feel free to skip the first minute and my long-winded intro. On Carbon Confidential, the guest needs to be the star. That means fewer host monologues and more of the guest, early and often.  The less I tried to control the conversation, the more it flowed.

New episodes of Carbon Confidential feature the builders behind climate resilience projects. Subscribe on Substack so you don’t miss the next one.
